Dedicated Web Hosting Defined

When we speak of web hosting servers, there are three main categories - web hosting servers, VPS (private virtual hosting servers) and dedicated web hosting. Shared hosting servers host lots of customers and so the system resources per account are restricted, VPS web hosting offer more configuration liberty, but also influence other virtual private hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers offer you the freedom to do everything you like without intervening with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are commonly much more high-priced than shared web servers or private virtual servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is very simple. If your firm has a resource-demanding website, or simply has very exact web server architecture requirements, the most intelligent option would be a dedicated servers. For somebody who is inclined to invest in safety and stability, the greater price is of no concern. You are given root-level access and can utilize 100 percent of the dedicated hosting web server's system resources without anyone else availing of these resources and interfering with your websites.

Hardware architectures

Most hosting companies, incl. us at American Patriot Hosting, offer several hardware architectures you can pick from on the basis of your needs. The hardware architectures offer different sorts of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM and hard disk drive sizes and different monthly traffic usage quotas. You can choose a web hosting Control Panel, which is a useful graphical user interface if you wish to utilize the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes solely and prefer not to resort to an SSH terminal for all the modifications you will be making. We offer three types of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The Control Panel of your choosing

If you are a confident Linux user (our dedicated web hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated web hosting via an SSH terminal only. That, however, could be inconvenient, even more so if you want to give complete root-level access to someone else who has less technical skills than yourself. This is why having web hosting CP software pre-activated is a splendid idea. The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel tool that we provide does not give you root access and is mainly suitable for somebody who has numerous web sites that consume a lot of resources, but desires to administer the sites, databases and e-mail box accounts via an intuitive hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, grant full root-level access and include 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting accounts rather than using the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should pick one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a network downtime, it is useful to have some kind of monitoring platform enabled. Here at American Patriot Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also an extra option - the hosting solutions provider offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would permit you to save the very same data on 2 server hard disk drives as a precaution in case of a hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete root access deletes something by accident.
